Choosing

Making choices can be tough, especially when you feel so much is riding on the choice you make. When you have to decide between two things, you might feel anxious and concerned that you may make the wrong choice. I offer two steps that I believe will ease a great deal of the stress involved and prevent you from being frozen until it is too late for you to choose.

Step One – Pray.

Approaching your decision in prayer. Clear your head and your options. Allow the Lord to guide you. Don’t go with a resolution already decided and tell yourself the Lord blessed it. Journal your concerns and wait so you can journal His response.

  • Sit or lie down comfortably and close your eyes, focusing only on your breathing until you are no longer feeling anxious.

  • Try not to think about your decision and focus on releasing physical tension in your body.

  • Wait patiently and write what the Lord says to you.

  • Find what He spoke to you in the Bible, read it as you move to step 2.

Step Two – Comparing Your Options

When you have heard from the Lord, you may not have been given a direct choice. You may be given guidance and you have to make the final decision yourself. Focus on what is the best rather than what you want or what others may want. Making a decision to please yourself or others may seem like a good thing at the time. However, will it still be the best decision 10 days, weeks, months or years from now? How will it fit into your goals?

The thing you have to keep in mind is both choices could probably work for you. Remind yourself that being presented with multiple easy options is just as hard as multiple difficult options.
